Terms & Conditions
Ultimo aggiornamento: June 22, 2026
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your purchase and use of the premium ("PRO") version of the ScudoWP security-hardening plugin for WordPress ("ScudoWP", "the Plugin", "we", "us", "our"). By purchasing, installing, activating, or using ScudoWP PRO you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not purchase or use ScudoWP PRO. Please read these Terms together with our Privacy Policy. Section 4 explains that ScudoWP PRO is sold and distributed through the third-party platform Freemius, whose own Terms of Service and refund policy also apply to your purchase. This document is provided for information and contractual clarity. It is not legal advice. If you need advice about your specific situation, consult a qualified professional.
1. Definitions
"Free version" means the no-cost edition of ScudoWP that is publicly available (including via the WordPress.org plugin directory). It is fully functional on its own.
"PRO version" (or "ScudoWP PRO") means the paid edition that unlocks premium features when activated with a valid licence.
"Licence" means the right to use ScudoWP PRO under an active, paid subscription, limited to the number of sites included in your plan.
"Site" means a single distinct WordPress installation (one domain or subdomain treated as one install) on which the Plugin is activated.
"Freemius" means Freemius, Inc., the third-party platform that acts as the merchant of record for ScudoWP PRO and processes checkout, billing, invoicing, taxes, and refunds.
"Subscription" means the recurring, annual plan that grants you a Licence plus updates and support for its term.
2. Licence to Use the Plugin
Subject to these Terms and to your payment of the applicable fees, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use ScudoWP PRO on up to the number of Sites included in your plan (see Section 6), for as long as your Subscription is active.
The Plugin is licensed, not sold to you. We and our licensors retain all intellectual-property rights in the Plugin, its code, design, and trademarks. ScudoWP and WPezo are our brands.
ScudoWP's source code is distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL), consistent with WordPress. Nothing in these Terms limits the rights granted to you by the GPL in the Plugin's code. These Terms govern the commercial relationship — your Subscription, updates, support, and the use of our services and brand — not the GPL freedoms in the code itself.
You may not resell, sublicense, or redistribute your Licence key, nor remove or alter licensing, attribution, or security mechanisms in the Plugin.
3. Free Version vs. PRO Version
The Free version is complete and usable on its own and does not require payment. You may keep using the Free version whether or not you ever purchase PRO.
The PRO version adds premium features that become available only while a valid PRO Licence is active. Premium features are designed to add capability, not to take it away.
If a PRO Subscription lapses or is cancelled, PRO-only features stop working, but the Plugin continues to operate as the Free version. Core protective functionality available in the Free tier — such as the firewall, scans, and Safe Mode — is not disabled by a lapsed licence.
We may move, change, add, or retire features between the Free and PRO tiers over time, and may change the contents of a plan for future Subscription terms.
4. Sales, Billing & Merchant of Record (Freemius)
ScudoWP PRO is sold and distributed exclusively through the third-party platform Freemius. Freemius is the merchant of record for your purchase.
As merchant of record, Freemius handles checkout, payment processing, invoicing, and the calculation and collection of applicable taxes (such as VAT or sales tax), as well as the processing of refunds.
Your purchase is therefore also subject to Freemius's own terms and policies, including the Freemius Terms of Service and the Freemius refund policy, in addition to these Terms. Where the operational details of payment, billing, or refunds differ, the Freemius terms govern those operational matters.
Payment-method details (card numbers and similar) are handled by Freemius and its payment partners. We do not receive or store your full payment-card data.
5. Subscription, Auto-Renewal & Cancellation
ScudoWP PRO is a recurring annual subscription. Unless you cancel, your Subscription automatically renews at the end of each annual term, and the then-current renewal fee is charged to your payment method on file through Freemius.
Auto-renewal continues until you cancel. Renewal pricing may differ from your initial promotional price; any change to renewal pricing will be communicated as required by applicable law and by Freemius.
You can cancel or manage your Subscription at any time through the Freemius customer dashboard / customer portal (for example, via the account or licence-management link in your purchase confirmation email, or the "Manage Account" / billing area linked from the Plugin). There, you can turn off auto-renewal, update your payment method, download invoices, and view your licence and Sites.
Cancelling stops future renewals. Unless a refund applies (see Section 6 and Section 4), cancellation does not retroactively refund the current term, and you keep PRO features and updates until the end of the term you have already paid for.
To avoid being charged for the next term, cancel before the renewal date. We recommend cancelling at least 24 hours before renewal to allow processing time.
6. Plans, Sites per Plan & 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
PRO is offered in tiers that differ by the number of Sites on which you may activate the Licence: Personal — 1 Site; Business PRO — 3 Sites; Agency — 20 Sites.
Each plan also includes updates and support for the duration of the active Subscription (see Section 8). You may move a Licence between your own Sites within your plan's Site limit using the Freemius customer dashboard, subject to reasonable use.
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee: if you are not satisfied, you may request a full refund within 30 days of your initial purchase. Refund requests are processed by Freemius as merchant of record, in accordance with the Freemius refund policy.
The 30-day guarantee applies to the initial purchase. Refunds for renewal charges, and any exceptions, are handled according to the Freemius refund policy and applicable consumer-protection law.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree to use ScudoWP and ScudoWP PRO only on Sites you own or are authorised to administer, and only for lawful purposes.
You must not: use the Plugin to attack, scan, or compromise systems you are not authorised to test; circumvent or disable the Plugin's licensing or security controls; reverse-engineer the Plugin except to the extent that law expressly permits; share, sell, or publish your Licence key; or use the Plugin in any way that violates applicable law or the rights of others.
Security hardening can change how a site behaves. You are responsible for testing changes, maintaining your own backups, and reviewing previews before applying site-touching actions. You remain responsible for your site, its content, and its compliance obligations.
We may suspend or terminate a Licence that is used in breach of these Terms, without refund where the breach is material.
8. Updates & Support
Plugin updates and customer support for the PRO version are provided only while your Subscription is active and your Licence is valid.
If your Subscription lapses, you may continue to use the last installed version as the Free tier, but you will no longer receive PRO updates (including premium-feature fixes and new premium features) or PRO support until you renew.
We aim to provide timely updates and support but do not guarantee any specific response time, fix, or availability unless separately agreed in writing.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
Security software reduces risk; it does not eliminate it. No plugin, service, or vendor can guarantee that a website is unhackable, that it will never be compromised, or that all attacks, malware, vulnerabilities, or data loss will be prevented or detected.
ScudoWP and ScudoWP PRO are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including (to the maximum extent permitted by law) implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Plugin will be error-free, uninterrupted, fully compatible with every theme, plugin, server, or hosting environment, or that it will meet your specific requirements. You are responsible for maintaining independent, working backups of your site.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any warranty or right that cannot be excluded or limited under the law applicable to you as a consumer.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, business, or for the cost of substitute products or services, arising out of or relating to the Plugin or these Terms, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Plugin and these Terms shall not exceed the total amount you actually paid for your ScudoWP PRO Subscription in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise) and form an essential basis of the bargain. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you; in that case our liability is limited to the smallest extent permitted by law, and your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.
11. Termination
These Terms apply for as long as you use ScudoWP PRO. Your Licence ends if your Subscription expires or is cancelled, or if we terminate it for a material breach of these Terms.
On termination, you must stop using the PRO features; you may continue to use the Free version subject to its applicable terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) survive termination.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the Plugin, in the law, or in our business or platform arrangements. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when the current version took effect.
Material changes affecting your active Subscription will take effect for the next renewal term where required by law. Your continued use of ScudoWP PRO after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. [Governing-law / jurisdiction placeholder — confirm the exact governing law, competent court/venue, and the legal entity name and address before publishing.]
If you are a consumer, you may also benefit from mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence; nothing in these Terms deprives you of those rights.
Your purchase is additionally subject to the Freemius Terms of Service and Freemius refund policy for all matters of checkout, billing, taxes, and refunds, as described in Section 4.
14. Contact & Not Legal Advice
For questions about these Terms or the Plugin, contact us through the support channel listed on our website or in the Freemius customer dashboard. For billing, invoice, payment-method, or refund matters, contact Freemius as merchant of record.
This document is provided for general information and contractual clarity and does not constitute legal advice. You should have these Terms reviewed by a qualified lawyer, and the placeholders (governing law/venue, legal entity name and address, support email, and links to the Freemius Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Refund Policy) completed, before publishing them.
